Introduction to Seminar Segment #7

What are Your Spheres of Influence?

This Segment of the Seminar is intended to help you think about the ways in which each individual participant does, and could, influence and inspire other people to make positive changes in their lives. Whether we know it or not, we all have intended and unintended influences on other people. Unless we live in isolation, almost everything we do affects other people.

When we want to reach out to others, we usually think about the people we know well. Yet it is the people whom we know only slightly that, though we may not realize it, in many ways are a greater resource. Because we tend to relate best to other people who are like us, our impact within this little group may not be not that great. To the extent, however, that we can reach - and affect - people who are different from us, our influence is likely to be that much greater.

Consider doing the Johari Window exercise. This is a simple and useful tool for illustrating and improving self-awareness. Doing the exercise may lead to insight about how one might improve the positive effect one has on other people.
